DIS developed the pilot project and the first prototype of the innovative solution.
With LIFELINK, the people in the world’s poorest regions will only need to use a mobile phone to get safe drinking water. DIS developed the pilot project and the first prototype of this innovative solution.
The project involved development of software as well as the construction of the actual tapping unit. The prototype was developed at the DIS workshop. Grundfos checked in to DIS’ Project Hotel, which led to a short and concentrated development period.
Technically, the solutions consist of a submersible pump from Grundfos powered by solar panels or wind turbines. The pumped water is stored in an elevated water tank and led by gravity to an automatic tapping unit. Users insert a SmartCard with a built-in chip in a slot at the water tapping unit in order to tap water. A display shows how many credits are available. The water credits are pre-paid to the smart card via mobile phone banking.
Grundfos LIFELINK is part of The Grundfos Group, one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers, employing approximately 18,500 people in 81 companies in 45 countries worldwide.
